A Brief Outline
The Malt Shovel Golf Society was formed in 1994 by the landlord and regulars of the Malt Shovel public house which is situated in Carr Gate, Wakefield , West Yorkshire . We have grown steadily over the years and now have around 30 members.
The aim of the society is to play competitive, friendly golf (with the emphasis on friendly), our season kicks off in late March and continues through until September. Events are usually played over 18 holes in the afternoon/early evening, but we also have 3 majors - The Malt Shovel Challenge, The Builth Wells Challenge, and The Landlords Prize which are full days or weekends. The leaderboard positions are taken from a players best 5 cards over the season, and the winner is presented with a prize at the annual dinner.
Meetings are held once a month in the Malt Shovel, the dates of which are posted on the notice board in the pub - which members are asked to read - and can also be found on the news section of the web site. Have a look around the site and find out who is doing the business, if any members have an item to post or a comment to make send an e-mail to paul.whittleston@bigfoot.com and it will be considered.
